The end of history? Or the beginning of the future?

OUR RESEARCH PLAN

For this assignment, our class has broken up into several small, three to four person groups to answer the question "Is Japanese culture disappearing? Why?". This three-person group consists of Nozomi Naoi, Anna Clark, and myself, Travis Tamura. Nozomi is studying Family life, Anna is studying Food, and I am studying Art Forms (like literature, painting, music, etc.). Anna, studying food, expects to find that the "traditional [food] is still there, but the modern and western [food's popularity] is growing.". Nozomi, studying Family Life, expects to find that the Traditional form is still there, but it is being "modernized" and is being influenced by the west. I expect to find that the "trend" in art is moving towards Modern, receiving western influence, but staying Japanese (not becoming fully western).

To find this information, the three of us will be using the library, other books, and the internet. Also, we will write interview questions for Nozomi to translate, and then our group will conduct interviews. So far, our group believes that Traditional Japanese culture is remaining. However, it is being modernized (with some western influence). In other words, Japanese culture is moving towards "Modern" and away from "Traditional", but western influence is growing.
