Tokyo Unmasked

"Welcome!"

OUR RESEARCH PLAN

Our group has decided to address the Minister of Culture's problem by looking at many aspects of Japan's culture.  We want to be able to find out if Japanese culture is disappearing or not.  Bari will be researching Fashion as an aspect of Japanese culture. She thinks that fashion will continue to be seen through Traditional, Modern and Western influences, but because of the changing trends, each will be represented in different ways at different times.
Bari plans on getting the information to answer the questions that will help her resolve this problem mainly through books, encyclopedia and Internet sources.  Some interviews will be done. Caroline has chosen to look into the food aspect.  She expects that "traditional food" will disappear from daily diets, but will still be around to eat for meals and delicacies.  She plans to find her information from books, encyclopedia's and the Internet, as Bari is.  Howard will be looking at music in Japan. Howard thinks that Traditional forms of music will disappear completely and only Modern and Western forms will show.  He, too, will use the same kinds of sources. Tomoyo will be researching daily life.  She plans to get her information through the same sources, as well as many interviews.  Statistics will also be used.  She expects that once she has looked at her research, she will find that Traditional nor Western daily life is the pervasive trend, but Modern, because Japanese like to create their own styles and may incorporate "a little bit of everything" into their lives.
We all agree that in the end, we will find that culture, disregarding what genre of culture is more pervasive, isn't dying, but it is merely evolving.  We say this because culture cannot die and culture is what defines a nation.  Even as Japan changes, it will still be recognized for certain qualities it has.  What is Western now may be traditional in years to come.  We look forward to finding out the answer to the problem presented to us.
