Explorations (Introduction) the first course for many students in information communication technology applications and media literacy in the Middle School. This course covers areas applicable to your other class work. Explorations (Introduction) is a course actively integrating information communications technology skills and media literacy with the students' school day and to help them be prepared for the digital world. All projects in this course are connected to their Middle School academic day (selected by both the student and facilitator) incorporating word processing, spreadsheets, graphs, publishing, graphics, presentations, HTML documents and media literacy. While this course will not automatically satisfy the ASIJ high school graduation requirement in information communication technology, you will have the opportunity to use the electronic portfolio you create to show that you meet the requirements for a waiver. You will manage the electronic portfolio as a journal of your course work through out the course. This will be used for your and Mr. Erwin's assessments. Prerequisite: None, but keyboarding skills are highly recommended. Explorations (Advanced) is for students who have taken Explorations (Introduction) and wish to focus on an aspect of information communication technology and medial literacy at an advanced level. Students will have the background and experience to create an Information Communication Technology Company and work on it with only minimal supervision. In addition, students will work on a project of their own choosing with a clear connection to the school community. With your extensive expertise, you will be a resource, as a facilitator, for others in the class or in the school. Explorations (Advanced) may be repeated in a subsequent semester. You will manage a company website as a journal of work with your Information Communication Technology Company. This will be used for your and Mr. Erwin's assessments. Prerequisite: Explorations Introduction and consent of instructor. This course can be repeated over a few semesters. Explorations learning outcomes and objectives are closely tied to the ASIJ Student Learning Outcomes.
