Wataru, Takuma and Appana: In the robotics invent kit we made the simple robot to the missions and challenges. We thought that this project was very inventive and we experienced a lot of problem solving. Takuma said that he liked the programming screen the most. Appana believes the robots wheels were cool. Wataru said the motors were fun and interesting. We are looking forward to try our challenge when Mr.Mikton makes a maze. Overall, we thought that this project was really really amusing because we could program our robot the way we wanted and that is cool. Wataru thought that inventing your own robot was creative. Appana thought that teamwork was very much valued because three brains are always better than one. Fusa and Ryo: This program of working with the Lego Mind Storms was very exciting. Although, we had some trouble working with the computers in the old room. First, our CD was lost and we took about 15 minutes to find it. Second, we took almost 2 periods of class time just to download the firmware of the program on our RCX, the brain of Lego Mind Storms. We also had problems of trying to hear our speakers because everyone else's speakers were too near. So Mr. Mikton thought of moving to his own office, where all the computers are new and have better quality. We succeeded to download firmware really quick here and the computers are farther away from each other, so we could hear better. Overall, we're having a great time right now going through the training mission. Overall, we thought the project was very exciting and full of joy. We did make some mistakes while we worked on our robots. One problem was the amount of time we had for working on the robots. We got about two or three class periods, which is 45 minutes, to work on the robots. We had two contests, which are speed race and the sumo fighting contest. We were trying very hard to make our speed race robot fast, putting them apart, thinking very thoroughly, but we couldn't finish our robot before the actual race. So we couldn't participate in the exciting race. Although, for the next fighting contest, we were very careful about time and made a funny, simple robot with arms going around rapidly to flip the other robot. We lost right away, but we thought it was very funny and better than not participating. We think that this class should be like the whole year, so we have more time to work on everything and have more fun. Yuto, Yotaro and Alex: In this project we learned how to make and program the Lego Mindstorm cars. We had technical difficulty with the USB towers at first because sometimes they would not work. We also had problems on the sound system. So we moved to a computer room in the middle school where the computer cooperated with us. We did training missions that were sometimes hard, but we managed to do it. We enjoy doing this project a lot! We really enjoyed this great, challenging activity. It challenged our abilities to imagine how our machine should work, and the creation of the machine. We really enjoyed the sumo activity, and enjoyed the race as well. We kind of lucked out on both activities. We thought that our robot was going to lose, but we programmed it well. The computers in the middle school probably helped our successes, due to the higher speed. Sophia and Justine: This project has been a very interesting experience for us. We had a lot of problems on the way and some of them were the infra-red tower wouldn't connect to the RCX, and another one was building the touch sensor. But once we got over them, the Lego mindstorm started moving, and it was a lot of fun. This activity was fun and hard at times but it kept us really busy. We made "the runner" as the bumper and kept the RCX for the sumo tournament but we changes the wheels to thinner wheels and took off "the runner" for the speed race. This project was very enjoyable and those where the highlights of this activity. |
