Home Safety Council  

This nonprofit organization is a "leading source for home safety tips, checklists and information about home fire safety, falls prevention, poison prevention, water safety, child safety, disaster preparedness as well as many other home safety topics." Features fact sheets and related material on topics such as airway obstruction, carbon monoxide poisoning, lead paint, stairway safety, floods, swimming and pools, and testing smoke alarms.

Excellent, searchable information on young people's health for parents, children, and teens. Topics for parents include First Aid & Safety (including product safety, what to have on hand, and what to do in emergencies), Growth & Development (by age and topic), Hot Topics , and Infections (immunizations and home treatment). For teenagers, topics include emotional and sexual health, food and fitness, and staying safe. For children there's how the body works, Dealing with Feelings , growing up, being safe, games, and answers questions such as why eating ice cream can give you a headache and what earwax is.

Familydoctor.org: Physical Activity  

A collection of fact sheets on exercise and fitness, with an emphasis on safety (for weight training, running, snowboarding, and other sports) and specific injuries and illnesses (such as ankle sprains and shoulder pain). Community Policing Topics

Washington State Department of Health: Nutrition & Physical Activity  

This site provides information about nutrition, physical activity, and weight management programs in Washington state. Find the "Washington State Nutrition and Physical Activity Plan" and information on programs such as WIC (Women, Infants and Children), food safety, 5 A Day, and the Basic Food Nutrition Education Program (BFNEP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program).  Radiation-Emitting Products: Cell Phones  

Information about the safety of using cell phones. The site notes that there is "no proof ... that wireless phones are absolutely safe," but also that no scientific evidence shows that cell phones cause health problems. The site also discusses the standards developed to help manufacturers minimize interference with pacemakers and hearing aids. Includes an explanation of how cell phones work. From the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

I-Safe  

"I-SAFE America is an Internet Safety Education Foundation with major emphasis on empowering kids/teens with knowledge on how to act responsibly and be safe online." The site includes a description of programs and materials that can be ordered for free to help instruct students, parents, educators, community leaders, and law enforcement nationwide. Features chat rooms and an online magazine for children.
