| A lot of you may not know
what democracy is. It is a political system where everyone is given a
‘voice’ in political matters. The citizens choose the national
leader through a voting system. In the United States, the legislature
(representatives and senates) and the executive head (president) are chosen
through electorate colleges. In countries such as Japan and England, citizens
choose their representatives through a voting process, which in turn will lead
to a prime minister or leader. Instead of having the legislative, executive, and
juridical branches, a minister specializes in one political affair, headed by
the prime minister. Democracy is unlike other types of governments such as monarchism (ruled by a
royal family), or communism (where, ideally, there are no leaders).
The following is a chart that describes democracy’s structure, foundation,
ideals, and citizen expectations. (Note: These center around the United States and Japanese governments,
for these two countries are our focus.) |
