Summer Day Camp 2007
CHOFU CAMPUS Session A: July 23 - August 3 / Session B: August 6 - August 17
ROPPONGI CAMPUS Session A: July 23 - July 31 / Session B: August 1 - August 10
EVERY SUMMER for the past 32 years, the Chofu Campus of The
American School in Japan (ASIJ) has turned into a lively day camp for nearly
fifteen hundred
boys and girls. To a child, there is something special about summer and camp . .
. having fun, making new friends, learning without being graded,
letting the imagination go wherever it will! As summer fades into fall,
memories of good times at camp seem to grow bigger than life, becoming the
stuff of daydreams during the rest of the school year.

NEARLY ALL OF THE CHILDREN who come to ASIJ's Summer Day Camp are Japanese whose parents are eager for them to learn English. In our rapidly changing world, knowledge of foreign languages and familiarity with other cultures are the keys to international understanding. To this end, the goals of the camp are to provide classes in English as a Second Language and experiences in a variety of recreational activities, all in a typical Western environment. |
|
THE CHOFU PROGRAM INCLUDES DAILY LESSONS IN ENGLISH AND SWIMMING, in addition to gym and field sports, indoor games, mini-golf, roller skating, crafts, modelcraft, needlecraft, scrapbooking, music, dance, magic, computer, and cooking. Campers are given a broad exposure to many activities rather than concentration in one or two. Classes are always friendly and informal. THE ROPPONGI CAMPUS PROGRAM is based on this proven model, tailored to accommodate the different facilities and the special needs of younger campers.

THE CAMP ENROLLS CHILDREN who range in age from kindergarten (Roppongi only) or first through sixth grades in Japanese public and private schools. At camp, they are divided into groups of sixteen to eighteen boys and/or girls. Classroom instruction is coupled with individual attention at all levels. In line with American Camp Association recommendations, there is one staff member for every four campers.

of FOR SUMMER CAMP, all of the school's facilities are used: elementary, middle and secondary classrooms, labs and studios, libraries, theatre, swimming pool, four gyms, playgrounds and fields, cafeteria, health center, and bookstore at Chofu; classrooms, music room, library, multi-purpose room and playground at Roppongi.. |
EACH YEAR, the Summer Day Camp is in operation for four weeks at Chofu and approximately three weeks in Roppongi, beginning in mid-July. AT CHOFU, the four weeks are divided into two separate two-week sessions; campers are allowed to enroll in only one. The dates for the 2007 season are Monday to Friday, July 23 to August 3 (Session A) and Monday to Friday, August 6 to 17 (Session B). AT ROPPONGI, the three weeks are divided into two separate and shorter 8-day sessions; again, the two sessions are identical, so most campers enroll in just one. 2007 dates are July 23/24/25/26/27/28/30/31 (Session A) and August 1/2/3/6/7/8/9/10 (Session B). Please note that July 28 is a Saturday.
