"ASIJ has a rich and successful history that spans over 100 years and places it among the top international schools in the world. The success of its past students and the educational achievements of its current students are beyond question."
- WASC Accreditation Team
The American School in Japan is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an accreditation agency for public, independent, church-related and proprietary schools in California, Hawaii and East Asia.
Every six years, ASIJ is required to participate in a WASC self-study with a mid-term review every three years. This self-study focuses on a learning protocol and determines the strengths and weaknesses of the school, resulting in a six-year action plan.
ASIJ completed its most recent self-study in 2014 and has currently aligned its action plan with the school's strategic objectives.
