Visiting Speakers and Experts

Over the years ASIJ has played host to everyone from the current Emperor of Japan and President George H Bush to NASA astronaut John Glenn and natural scientist Jane Goodall. Whether it is taking a jazz master class with Herbie Hancock or listening to former US Secretaries of State General Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice talk about international relations, students have the opportunity to engage with, and learn from, outstanding guest speakers.

A vibrant visiting author program in our libraries offers students at all grade levels the chance to work with renowned writers such as Jack Gantos, Sandra Cisneros, Alan Gratz and Orson Scott Card over an extended period of time as well as enjoy shorter visits from authors, story tellers and book illustrators.

Filmmakers, musicians, actors, artists and visiting experts in many subject areas enhance and inspire students in myriad ways and stimulate students and faculty by bringing new perspectives and experiences to the school.

Students also have opportunities to interact with a wide range of experts off campus. From visiting former Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan at the National Diet Building and interviewing atomic bomb survivors during a field trip to Hiroshima to visiting the local fire station, students at all age levels have the chance to learn outside the classroom.
