Art Facilities

ASIJ offers the most advanced arts facilities of any international school in Japan. These state-of-the-art facilities support our K-12 performing and fine arts curriculum and an extensive range of co-curricular activities on the Chofu campus.


ASIJ Theater - Our state-of-the-art theater features retractile seats, fly-loft, moveable orchestra pit, advanced lighting and audio system and can be used in numerous different configurations. From guest speakers to full-scale musical performances, the theater has played host to everything from robotics tournaments to Shakespearean drama. Behind the scenes, fully-equipped workshop and professional-level audio-visual system, mean that students learn all aspects of the creative process and can discover their talent on or off stage.


Black Box Theater - This flexible performance space compliments our main theater and is used for smaller-scale productions, such as student directed drama, and various classes. Whether it is being used as a meeting space, for presentations, rehearsals or a performance, the Black Box can adapt to a variety of needs.


Choir Room - The choir room provides a dedicated space for choral lessons and features tiered seating. A live video link to the main auditorium also allows for it be used as an over-flow room for events taking place next door in the ASIJ Theater.


Band Room - Our well-equipped band room can function equally well as a teaching and practice space or a small performance space.


Music Rooms- Our two large elementary music rooms all plenty of space for movement during class and room for our young students to create music. Middle and high school students have access to our specialist band and choir rooms as well as a digital composition room featuring the latest hard and software.


Art Rooms - Each Chofu division has spacious art rooms featuring everything a budding artist needs to create. Whether they are studying ceramics, metalwork, photography or taking Advanced Placement studio art, our art rooms have all the equipment they require from kilns to a darkroom.


Dance Studio - The dance studio provides a dedicated space for our ballet and hip hop clubs as well as a variety of other student activities. After school, everyone from students to faculty use the space to work on their moves and keep fit.


Digital Video Studio - Students in the middle and high schools take advantage of the state-of-the-art editing equipment and digital video studio to create and film their own video projects. The studio is also used by media production clubs to broadcast and record events held in the theater.


Practice Rooms - Our suite of six solo practice rooms and an ensemble room provide students with spaces for individual and small group practice.  The rooms are used during performance classes and are also available for students to practice in their own time.


Multi-Purpose Room - Part of the Creative Arts Design Center, this flexible space can be used for performances, forums and practices. Rebuilt in 2015, the MPR is primarily used by the elementary school for the Performance Arts Workshop programs as well as other ES arts activities.
