Bus Service

Convenient, Enjoyable, Reliable, Safe

ASIJ transportation is convenient, reliable, and safe. Over 1000 students in kindergarten through grade 12 enjoy their bus ride to and from school each day.

ASIJ's Bus Fleet

ASIJ's fleet includes 27 well-appointed buses. Students ride in climate-controlled comfort in upholstered seats, complete with seat belts. All buses are equipped with GPS tracking systems, two-way radios, iPhones, and first aid and emergency supplies.

Bus Stops

For the convenience of ASIJ families, buses serve neighborhoods throughout downtown Tokyo. Most bus stops are located within a few minutes' walk from families' homes.

Bus Routes and Ride Times

In order to best serve our ASIJ families, the routing network extends into the central Tokyo residential areas and beyond, and ride times do vary depending upon location. Our shortest routes are approximately 30 minutes from the Yoyogi-Uehara and Kamiyamacho neighborhoods.

For more detailed bus route information, please contact ASIJ at info@asij.ac.jp

Riding the Bus

During the bus ride, students of all ages enjoy spending time with their friends or doing quiet activities. Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 students sit in assigned seats at the front of the bus, followed by upper elementary students, middle school students, and high school students. Bus monitors are spaced throughout the bus.

Bus Monitors

Bus monitors are responsible for the safety and well-being of their bus riders and help foster a sense of community on each bus.

Each spring, upperclassmen may apply for bus monitor positions for the next school year. Following a rigorous selection process, monitors are certified in first aid and CPR and trained in behavior management, discipline procedures, communication protocol, professional conduct, disaster preparedness, emergency procedures, and security measures.

"Our bus monitors are nice and help us." - Bus Rider, Grade 3

"It's important to create a safe and fun environment for everyone." - Bus Monitor, Grade 12

"Late Bus" Service

For students in after-school athletics and activities, there are multiple late bus routes scheduled each school day.

Parents Riding the Buses

Parents of bus riders are welcome to ride the bus to and from ASIJ for school events, activities, and volunteering, etc. There is no charge for this service.

Communication with Parents

There is an extensive communication system between parents of bus riders and ASIJ transportation personnel. During the school day, communication can be through email, telephone, or a casual drop-in visit. Most importantly, during all bus rides, ASIJ personnel are in contact with each bus and are available to parents by mobile phones.

"My kids love the bus. For them, it's one of the highlights of their day." - Parent, Bus Riders, Grade 1 and 3
