I spent the three best years of my life here. Everything was new, fresh, exciting and vibrant. The friends I made here, I made for life and it changed my future. I was never to be the same again.

Our global network of over 7,500 alumni provides a lifelong community offering unique opportunities to connect, network, mentor and socialize—enhancing careers, providing pathways to new experiences and offering deep friendship and support. An ASIJ education transcends time and place that leads to a lifetime of connections. Each year we host community receptions in the United States and Japan in addition to the many class reunions and regional gatherings organized by alumni.
We help our alumni stay connected to each other and to the school through our Alumni Portal, Mustangs Online. The portal is packed with news, information about upcoming events and reunions, photo galleries, internship and job opportunities, a directory and more. Our alumni may also request transcripts through the portal or by contacting our registrar at registrar@asij.ac.jp
Through the generations, ASIJ’s alumni have made important contributions to fields as diverse as diplomacy and dance, and have fostered friendships around the world. Outstanding alumni include US Ambassador Edwin O Reischauer ’27 leading business executives such as Sony Chairman Kaz Hirai ’79 and pioneering surgeon Wise Young ’68. Alumni in the arts include Oscar-winning actress Joan Fontaine ’35, actress Linda Purl ’73 and musician Hikaru Utada ’00.
The Japanese government has recognized the cross-cultural contributions of alumni such as Beate Sirota Gordon ’39, Albert Kobayashi ’42, Hans Baerwald ‘44, Isaac Shapiro ’48, Bruce Brenn ’53, Fred Notehelfer ’57, Peter Grilli ’59, John Powles ’66 and Fred Schodt ’68 with Imperial Honors.
Through the ASIJ Alumni Impact Award, inaugurated in 2022, the School also recognizes the difference our former students have on their communities and in their achievements in their chose fields.
We’d love to see you again!
Campus is open for visitors from 9:00am–4:00pm during the school year.
If you’d like to arrange a visit, please contact alumni@asij.ac.jp.
We are happy to offer you a campus tour Monday - Friday between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm when school is in session.
For security reasons, please contact alumni@asij.ac.jp to schedule a visit.
Due to construction, maintenance and additional campus programs, visits during ASIJ’s summer, spring, and winter holidays may be restricted. Please contact the Alumni Office in advance if you would like to visit during these times to find out of a visit is possible. While we do our best to accommodate all requests, please note that even with advance notice, it may not be possible to visit during these holidays.
Alumni are also welcome to attend our annual campus events such as Spirit Day and Winterfest—no prior registration is required for these events. Also, every year we have several alumni who visit campus to speak to students or parents individually or as part of alumni panel discussions. This is a great opportunity for ASIJ students to interact and learn from our alumni. Please let us know if you would be available to speak to students while you are in Japan.
Whether it's been a few months or three decades since you were last on campus, we love it when our alumni and former faculty visit.
“ASIJ prepared me most by teaching me to have a growth mindset, which gave me the confidence to tackle challenges outside of my comfort zone.”
—Serena Tamura ’08
