Distance Learning at ASIJ

As the COVID-19 pandemic forces schools worldwide to rethink the way they teach and learn, educator Dan Kearney, host of the What's the Big Idea? podcast, takes a look at the move to distance learning. He talks with six teachers from The American School in Japan about their approach to distance learning. Rina Hara, Josh Miles, Wendy Rathberger, Anna Rekate, Courtney Carreon and Roy Tomlinson reflect on transitioning to a different way of teaching and how they are continuing some of their classroom traditions as well as discovering new tools and techniques. They discuss the adjustment to teaching remotely, the importance of social-emotional support for their students, and what advice they'd give other schools who have also moved to learning online.

ASIJ's high school podcast What's the Dealio? also took a look at distance learning from the student perspective and the impact on their social interaction, learning and daily life, in a multi-episode series.
